Mission Statement
The Cleansing Center’s philosophy is hardly a novel one, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.” Healthcare professionals have recommended prevention as a solution to our Nation’s health problems for a long time. Doctors have been urging Americans for decades to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Despite stern warnings, as a country, it appears we haven’t been listening.
According to the CDC HYPERLINK "http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/FASTATS/deaths.htm" http://www.cdc.gov/nchs/FASTATS/deaths.htm in the US, the leading causes of death in the United States are:
| Heart disease | 631,636 deaths per year in the US | |
| Cancer | 559,888 deaths per year in the US | |
| Stroke | 137,119 deaths per year in the US | |
| Chronic respiratory diseases | 124,583 deaths per year in the US | |
| Accidents | 121,599 deaths per year in the US | |
| Diabetes | 72,449 deaths per year in the US | |
| Alzheimer's | 72,432 deaths per year in the US | |
| Influenza and Pneumonia | 56,326 deaths per year in the US | |
| Kidney Diseases | 45,344 deaths per year in the US | |
| Septicemia | 34,234 deaths per year in the US |
To a great extent, these deaths could have been prevented using diet, exercise and life style modification prior to the onset of illness. A solution seems simple, so what happened, and more importantly, what’s happening to our country? The cost of healthcare continues to rise, pharmaceutical companies proliferate inadequate solutions, and on the whole Americans are getting sicker, with a rise in what used to be rare illnesses like Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Autism. Quite simply, America has made more advances towards treating sickness and symptoms rather than preventing it.
Over the past 30 years, medical science has made great strides in surgical and pharmaceutical developments to help extend the average person’s life span. However, our country has become obsessed with such advancements and shifted the public’s focus away from prevention and towards expensive “cures.” Traditionally, health care professionals reserved medicine and surgery for conditions causing or leading to permanent injury. Today, doctors are prescribing medicine and surgery as the first course of treatment for the symptoms of illnesses and ignoring illness’s underlying causes. After all, why treat the cause of illness when there’s more money to be made in treating its symptoms. With such a shift in treatment modalities having long since occurred, today, traditional medical doctors are not adequately trained to provide the support necessary to help patients make changes to treat the underlying ailment.
As long as the healthcare community ignores the underlying conditions related to disease, and pharmaceutical companies continue to produce better, more accessible medications; people will live longer sicker lives. Sicker because while a cornucopia of medications may help relieve symptoms, people often find themselves painted into a chemical corner, taking pill after pill trying to escape the side effects of one medication, or increase another’s effectiveness.
We are sick emotionally, spiritually and physically. We are overfed and under nourished, we are overweight and depressed. Long gone are the days when a heavy-set person is encouraged to diet and exercise to improve their health over taking a pill to treat, but not cure, illness. Medications were NEVER meant to replace common sense and accountability; sadly, however, in the wake of an ever advancing, and influential, pharmaceutical industry, just that has happened.
The Solution
On a very simple level, sickness is often preventable. People get sick for a variety of reasons – however, two conditions must be met for sickness to occur: susceptibility and exposure. People are exposed to chemicals, viruses, infections or injuries, and if their body is unable compensate, the result is an alteration in the healthy function of the body’s systems. When the body is burdened with a multitude of hindrances to its healthy immunological and physiological response, we become sick. Today, more than even, Americans are more susceptible than ever to interferences with the healthy functioning of their bodies: stress, inadequate sleep, emotional and spiritual confusion, inadequate or inappropriate dietary intake leading to malnourishment, obesity, exposure to environmental toxins and pathogens and poly-medication administration, to name a few.
At The Cleansing Center we address the total health of our patients’ physical, emotional and spiritual conditions, taking prevention to new and aspiring heights. Our preventive care protocols include comprehensive reviews of systems, complete or interval family and social history, and a comprehensive assessment/history of pertinent risk factors. Instead of treating the symptoms of illness, we offer clients the opportunity to start a new way of life that regularly eliminates the causes of illness.
We provide the same quality medical staffing that you would receive in NJ’s best hospitals, only we don't treat sickness – we prevent it. Services include lab work, physical assessment, colonics, massage, nutrition and exercise counseling, heavy metal detoxification, parasite testing, IV Vitamin and Chelation and spiritual guidance.
The Cleansing Center is there to help clients make the changes necessary to live a long and healthy life. “Treatment,” at the cleansing center may include the elimination of stressors, the detoxification of impurities, modification of diet and exercise activities, and possibly the development of emotional and spiritual coping skills. The Cleansing Center not only assesses clients to determine deficiencies from a traditional medical perspective; we also assess a client’s life style choices with an emphasis on "Life Style Modification" to look at potential underlying causes of disease. Disease prevention is our goal.
A Hands On Approach
Included in our assessments is an eye towards our clients’ emotional and spiritual well-being. Often, the emotional damage many suffer as children manifests itself in poor health habits and destructive living practices in adulthood. Sometimes patients don’t really want to get well, some don’t even know where to begin. At The Cleansing Center we point people looking to change in the right direction. As part of their spiritual and emotional treatment, we may refer clients to professionals like clergy, experiential psychodrama workshops or work groups, support groups, cognitive therapists, group therapists and or hypnotists. Other patients may benefit from working with any of our life coaches to help successfully bring about healthy life style changes.
NOTE: As part of our mission to offer clients whole body health, we have partnered with like minded professionals whose goal is the responsible practice of medicine. Medication as “treatment” should only be prescribed when emergent and dangerous situations are at hand. When medication is prescribed, it is prescribed only after a careful analysis of the patient. Underlying conditions that cause the ailment requiring medication MUST be immediately addressed. Any medication prescribed MUST have a start date and a stop date to coincide with the client’s possible life style modifications. Our attention to these details makes the difference between medication used as a healthy, temporary crutch, and the development of a dependence on prescription medication.
Our Co-Founders
Medical Director - Dr. Kenneth Lewandowski, DO
Clinical Director - Jim Bock, RN
The clinic’s conception was born of our like minded Directors who were equally frustrated with their experience of the nation’s health at their respective hospitals. The clinic’s medical director, Dr. Lewandowski, found the healthcare process to be lopsided and perhaps ineffective, pointing out that most Americans incur 95% of their medical expenses in the last 5 years of their life. The Cleansing Center’s founder, and Clinical Director, Jim Bock, RN, noticed that a majority of his hospital’s patients were suffering from ailments resulted from poor life style choices, neglect and ignorance and were completely preventable. Both were equally frustrated that simple treatments like colonics for the constipated were not being recommended simply because insurance won’t cover it. Together, Dr. Lewandowski and Mr. Bock are dedicated to helping patients receive the intervention necessary to direct the course of their clients’ lives towards healthy long lives.
Mr. Bock served as a Registered Nurse in University Hospital in Newark and Newton Memorial’s emergency departments and was responsible, in 1996, for starting The Survivors Foundation that provided therapeutic referrals to survivors of child abuse and training to healthcare professionals treating adults who were abused as children.
Dr. Lewandowski practiced emergency medicine at University Hospital in Newark for over 15 years.
